Inclusive Fitness Builds Strength, Confidence, and Connection

The special education units of South Valley and Rural Cass are leading the way in inclusive physical education. Through an adaptive curriculum, they ensure that all students—regardless of ability—can participate meaningfully and succeed in physical education. This effort was further supported by NDAD’s Gibbens Memorial Grant, which funded their co-ability teams to compete in the ABLE Games—the region’s first all-inclusive functional fitness competition.

“I can’t lift my arm very high. I’m really looking forward to having shoulder surgery so I can recover and be more mobile,” says Brenda Klein of Dickinson, ND. Brenda learned about NDAD and Chantel at the Dickinson office through a friend. Knowing her surgery was coming up, she reached out for help.
