NDAD Park: A Fully Inclusive Playground For Grand Forks

NDAD and the Grand Forks Park District are proud to announce the new fully inclusive playground at NDAD Park, located near Discovery Elementary, is NOW OPEN! Thoughtfully designed with inclusion at its core, this welcoming space offers opportunities for people of all abilities, ages, and backgrounds to play, connect, and belong.

A Community-Centered Partnership

Construction on the project began in early May 2026 and was made possible through a generous gift from NDAD to the Grand Forks Park District. This investment reflected a shared commitment to accessibility, independence, and community inclusion in Grand Forks—values that guide both organizations and help shape public spaces that truly serve everyone.

“This inclusive park is an investment in the heart of our community and the hometown where NDAD was founded in 1975,” said Don Santer, CEO of NDAD. “When accessibility is designed in from the start, it changes how families experience a space. It brings people together, creates shared moments, and strengthens community connections. That kind of impact is exactly why we’re proud to support this project.”

"This park is about more than play - it's about belonging. We're proud of our partnership with the Grand Forks Park District to create a space where inclusion feels natural, fun and welcoming for everyone." - DeAnn Burckhard, NDAD Marketing Director

Designed for Play, Connection, and Belonging

The playground was developed collaboratively by NDAD and the Grand Forks Park District, with input from educators at Discovery Elementary to ensure the space supports children of all ages and abilities. The design includes features that encourage physical activity, sensory engagement, and social interaction—creating meaningful play experiences that invite participation from everyone.

“The inclusive playground at NDAD Park is an exciting project that will remove barriers and expand access to play,” said George Hellyer, Executive Director of the Grand Forks Park District. “We are so thankful to NDAD for their generosity and share in their commitment to bringing inclusive recreational spaces to our community.”

A Lasting Investment in Inclusion

NDAD Park now serves as a central gathering place where families connect, differences are embraced, and inclusion becomes part of everyday community life. This project represents a long-term investment by both NDAD and the Park District to ensure public spaces in Grand Forks reflect, support, and welcome everyone who calls this community home.
