NDAD helping other to help themselves
“The plan was for only for a couple stents. Then I woke up three days later and found out I ended up having triple bypass surgery,” tells Greg Lane of West Fargo, ND.

Six months later he had another procedure on his carotid artery. “I always say, they roto-rooted my neck,” he joked.

Knowing everything he’d been through and the future medical needs he’d have, Greg’s friend told him to call NDAD to see what kind of help he could get. “I’m like everyone else – just hesitant to ask for help. But I called and talked with Kim, and then I wondered why I waited so long to call.”

Client services representative, Kim Zeeb, helped him through the application process. “It was simple. I’ve never met her in person because we’ve only talked on the phone. But I love her for everything she’s been able to do for me.”

For more than five years, NDAD has helped Greg with the costs of his prescriptions, provided gas cards for some of his medical travel needs and covered the cost of a lift chair. “I’m on about 12 different medications for my heart and diabetes. I have Medicare, but it doesn’t cover everything. NDAD has made a huge difference in my life.”

Greg encourages people to call NDAD. “Don’t think about it. Just call. Let them know your situation and they’ll see what they can do to help.”

NDAD’s financial assistance may provide funds that can be used for a variety of needs. To receive assistance, clients must complete an application and qualify based on NDAD guidelines. Funds may be used for prescription assistance, medical equipment and supplies, accessibility, out-of-town medical travel assistance, personal attendant care, paratransit services, and adaptive recreation activities.
