For the last three years, Paula and Milton Aardahl of Bismarck, ND, have been working with NDAD. Paula has asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder, a lung disease making it difficult to breathe. Her husband, Milton, has dilated cardiomyopathy, a heart condition causing the heart to enlarge and weaken, making it difficult to pump blood effectively.  Their conditions force them to need expensive prescriptions on a regular basis.

“NDAD has been a godsend for our prescriptions,” asserts Paula. Like many in North Dakota, the Aardahls live on a fixed income. “Prescriptions are so expensive. There’s no way we could have afforded to buy them without help. NDAD has made a big difference in our lives.”

The Aardahls have also taken advantage of NDAD’s free healthcare equipment loan program.  “I’m dizzy and lightheaded so I’ve been able to use a bathchair from them making showering easier and safer,” shares Paula. She goes on to say that the Bismarck client services representative, Joan Bickel, has been easy to work with. “Joan is wonderful. She makes daily life easier and it’s easy to renew our paperwork every year.”

Paula encourages people to call NDAD for help. “I would absolutely tell people to go ahead and call. We’ve had a wonderful experience. You never know, it could very well be a lifesaver for you.”
