“Medical equipment isn’t cheap. It doesn’t make sense to buy it, especially when you don’t need it very long,” noted Linda Clemes of Williston, ND. In October 2023, she had a hip replacement.

“My daughter saw me walk and said something wasn’t quite right,” laughed Linda Clemes of Williston, ND. “Other people would say it looked painful when I walked and I said, ‘Because it is!” Her hip was causing her so many problems that she finally decided to have a hip replacement in October 2023.

The afternoon after her surgery, Linda was already up walking. Next, she knew she needed equipment to help her through her recovery. Fortunately, her husband was talking about the surgery with his coffee-mates and someone suggested NDAD. “Once we found out about the equipment available, it was easy to get. I borrowed a walker and a cane,” she shared. 

NDAD’s Healthcare Equipment Loan Program (HELP) provides home healthcare equipment and other durable medical pieces at no charge to North Dakota residents for up to 90 days.  This program is available through all six NDAD client services offices. 

“If you don’t need medical equipment, you don’t really seek it out.  I was surprised it was available and so easily accessible,” Linda told. “Equipment isn’t cheap, especially when you don’t need it for very long. It just doesn’t make any sense to buy.” She used the walker for three weeks for her own security during recovery around the house and a little outside. After she saw her doctor, he said she could use a case for a little while longer.
