Diagnosed with two different forms of cancer only seven months apart, Grand Forks, ND, resident, Jeff G., was faced with a new and unexpected way of life. Fighting two cancers simultaneously left him working only eight hours a week along with escalating medical bills.
“Doctors were prescribing medications to not only treat the cancers, but also treat the side effects of the cancers. I’ve been on two medications that I was paying cash for, but the costs were becoming more expensive, and I didn’t know where to turn,” shared Jeff.
When he couldn’t afford his prescriptions, a friend recommended he call NDAD. “At first, I approached NDAD to pay for the two medications I could no longer afford. I was so grateful. They are still paying for those medications today.”
Part of Jeff’s treatment included radiation therapy, which caused internal burns leading to another chronic medical condition. “I need costly medical supplies every month. Since [NDAD] was already helping with my prescriptions, I asked if there was any more help available.”
Fortunately, NDAD was able to pay for these medical supplies and continues to do so. “I’ve been overwhelmed by the amount of help I’ve received from NDAD. They’ve taken the burdens off my shoulders and have allowed me to continue to live on my own. I don’t have to worry about coming up with an additional $150 to $200 a month for my medications and I’m able to live comfortably with the medical supplies provided to me.”
He said that NDAD has done so much more for him than help financially. “They’ve relieved my stress and anxiety,” Jeff noted. “I’ve remained independent, and the help from NDAD has encouraged me to help others to the extent that I am able.”
Jeff said that people shouldn’t hesitate to call regardless of their needs. “NDAD wants nothing more than to help others and not ask anything in return for it. Don’t hesitate to call them regardless of your needs.”
