Recovering from Surgery? Let NDAD Help for Free

Total knee replacements have become a common procedure for many North Dakota seniors. In fact, a recent study published by the National Library of Medicine ranked North Dakota second highest in the nation for total knee procedures among Medicare beneficiaries in 2021.
Along with recovery and therapy, many people need specialized medical equipment—items that can be costly to purchase for short-term use. That’s where NDAD’s Healthcare Equipment Loan Program comes in.
This program provides free short-term loans of durable medical equipment to help individuals heal safely and comfortably at home. Items include walkers, wheelchairs, bathroom safety aids, bed rails, reachers, and more. Equipment can typically be borrowed for up to 90 days, and NDAD staff can assist with options if you need items longer.
Rita’s Story: A Helping Hand When It Mattered Most
West Fargo resident Rita Schlenvogt knows firsthand how valuable this service can be. After her knee surgery was postponed multiple times, Rita unexpectedly needed equipment for lumbar surgery instead.
“I borrowed a bed rail first,” Rita shared. “Then, when my knee surgery finally happened, I borrowed a leg lifter, a grabber to help with clothes, and even a tool for socks. I had no idea there was such a thing, but it was a lifesaver!”
Rita says the NDAD Fargo office made the process easy and stress-free. “Sheila explained all the services NDAD offers and told me about options if I needed things longer than 90 days. NDAD made a big difference for me so I didn’t have to buy so many pieces of equipment.”
Her advice? “I highly recommend NDAD. You are so helpful and have a variety of things to help with beyond what any other company offers.”
