NDAD is proud to support the North Dakota Autism Center (NDAC) in West Fargo with a $5,000 Gibbens Memorial Grant to enhance programming and resources within its Day Habilitation Program for individuals with autism and other developmental disabilities.
Creating More Opportunities for Growth and Independence
The funding will support the purchase of adaptive recreation equipment, sensory regulation tools, life skills training materials, communication supports, and adaptive technology designed to help participants build independence and engage more fully in their communities.
NDAC's Day Habilitation Program provides opportunities for individuals with developmental disabilities to strengthen daily living skills, social connections, self-advocacy, and community participation through person-centered programming. The additional resources will expand hands-on learning opportunities while helping participants develop practical skills that support long-term independence.
“We are committed to providing meaningful opportunities that help individuals build confidence, develop life skills, and create connections within their communities,” said Brittney Hogan, Executive Director of the North Dakota Autism Center. “This funding will allow us to enhance our programming and better support participants as they work toward their personal goals.”
Supporting Inclusion and Community Participation
The new equipment and materials will help participants engage in a wider variety of activities focused on recreation, communication, skill development, and community involvement. NDAC anticipates the project will lead to increased participation, improved social connections, and greater opportunities for individuals to live fulfilling and productive lives.
“Everyone deserves the opportunity to learn, grow, and participate fully in their community,” said DeAnn Burckhard, NDAD Marketing Director. “We're proud to support the North Dakota Autism Center as they create opportunities for individuals with developmental disabilities to build independence, strengthen relationships, and pursue meaningful experiences.”
Continuing a Legacy of Impact
NDAD's Gibbens Memorial Grant supports projects that enhance health, well-being, and quality of life for individuals in at-risk populations. Established in 2015 in honor of NDAD founders Faye and Ron Gibbens, the grant carries forward their legacy of creating meaningful opportunities and improving lives across North Dakota.
