NDAD has awarded an Adaptive Recreation Grant to Southeast Behavioral Health Clinic to support a program focused on enhancing treatment engagement and overall well-being for individuals experiencing behavioral health challenges, developmental delays, and trauma-related conditions.

The program is designed to meet individuals where they are by providing practical, accessible supports that promote healing, engagement, and connection.

Sensory-Based Supports and Community Recreation

NDAD’s grant funding will be used to purchase sensory tools, comfort resources, and wellness supports that encourage self-regulation and engagement in treatment. In addition, funding will help expand access to community-based recreational opportunities that promote social connection, movement, and physical well-being.

These adaptive and sensory-based resources offer tangible tools that support individuals as they navigate behavioral health services—helping reduce barriers to participation and creating environments that feel safe, supportive, and inclusive.

Strengthening Recovery and Community Well-Being

“This is a valuable program that meets people where they are and supports both individual wellness and the overall behavioral health of our community,” said DeAnn Burckhard, Marketing Director at NDAD. “By investing in adaptive recreation and sensory-based supports, NDAD is helping reduce barriers to care, strengthen treatment engagement, and expand access to services that support recovery, connection, and quality of life.”

For Southeast Behavioral Health Clinic, this funding will make a meaningful difference for the individuals they serve—many of whom face significant challenges accessing inclusive, supportive wellness and recreational opportunities.

Part of NDAD’s Statewide Adaptive Recreation Grant Program

The grant awarded to Southeast Behavioral Health Clinic is one of 12 Adaptive Recreation Grants distributed statewide during NDAD’s current funding cycle. In total, NDAD awarded $60,390 to organizations across North Dakota that are increasing inclusive recreation and physical activity opportunities for people with disabilities.

Through its Adaptive Recreation Grant program, NDAD continues to invest in initiatives that strengthen communities, support recovery, and ensure individuals of all abilities have access to programs and activities that enhance quality of life.
