NDAD Supports Healthy Aging and Connection at Vocational Training Center

NDAD has awarded a $5,000 Adaptive Recreation Grant to Vocational Training Center, Inc. (VTC) in support of its Vitality Through Connections program.
The program serves individuals with one or more intellectual and/or developmental disability (IDD) diagnoses who are experiencing early cognitive or physical changes and are seeking a more retirement-focused lifestyle. Through intentional programming, VTC focuses on promoting wellness, social engagement, and meaningful connection as individuals age.
Enhancing Engagement Through Adaptive Technology
Grant funding will be used to purchase a Computerized Rehabilitation Device for Living (CRDL)—an evidence-based, interactive system designed to promote cognitive stimulation, physical engagement, and overall well-being.
VTC will use the CRDL to facilitate structured, touch-centered activities that support both physical and emotional health. The device also encourages shared experiences, helping strengthen social connections and communication among participants.
“Vitality Through Connections reflects our commitment to addressing the unique challenges associated with aging and IDD,” said Abby Nokelby, Program Coordinator at VTC. “The addition of the CRDL through NDAD’s grant strengthens this work by introducing an innovative tool that enhances engagement, communication, and overall well-being.”
Promoting Inclusion, Dignity, and Quality of Life
“NDAD is proud to support programs like Vitality Through Connections that intentionally promote inclusion, dignity, and quality of life as people age,” said DeAnn Burckhard, Marketing Director at NDAD. “This grant helps ensure individuals with disabilities have access to adaptive recreation opportunities that support physical, cognitive, and social health.”
By investing in adaptive tools and recreational supports, NDAD continues to help organizations create welcoming environments where individuals can stay engaged, connected, and supported throughout all stages of life.
Part of NDAD’s Statewide Adaptive Recreation Grant Program
The grant awarded to Vocational Training Center is one of 12 Adaptive Recreation Grants distributed statewide through NDAD’s Adaptive Recreation Grant Program during the current funding cycle. In total, NDAD awarded $60,390 to organizations across North Dakota that are expanding inclusive recreation and physical activity opportunities for people with disabilities.
Through this program, NDAD remains committed to strengthening communities and improving quality of life by supporting adaptive recreation initiatives that foster connection, well-being, and independence.
