Larry Hanson and Lynette Deaver

Larry Hanson of Minot isn’t bashful about his experience with NDAD. “It was the best thing that ever happened to us.”
He and his friend Lynette Deaver both benefit from tokens for the Souris Basin Transit made available through NDAD. They learned about NDAD from a mutual friend who also received benefits from NDAD and is grateful for the service.
“We have more freedom now. It only takes a call to schedule the ride and off we go,” tells Larry. They rely on the Transit for shopping needs, doctor’s visits and regular visits to the Harmony Center. “The Harmony Center has so many activities. We take computer classes each week and enjoy the games and peer groups. These tokens give us the ability to go whenever we want.”
NDAD’s direct financial assistance can include help with public transportation costs for paratransit services, specifically for people with mobility issues who cannot use the regular fixed-route city bus. Typically, paratransit provides door-to-door accessible transport using an advance-notice reservation system through the transit provider. Paratransit vehicles have lifts to help people who can’t climb stairs or who use wheelchairs and other mobility devices.
Lynette went on to share that her joints sometimes give her problems and the access to the Transit makes a big difference in her ability to still do the activities she enjoys.
“NDAD is the biggest help ever. If anyone thinks they might need help, just give them a call and see what they can do!” he exclaims.
Interested individuals must complete NDAD’s general assistance application form online or by calling one of our offices for an application to see if they meet income requirements. You must also qualify to use paratransit through your local transit system. Your medical provider must also provide documentation of mobility issue requiring door to door service.
