Hope, Inc. Enhances Inclusive Programming for Individuals of All Abilities
NDAD is proud to support Hope, Inc. with a $4,300 Gibbens Memorial Grant to strengthen its adaptive sports and recreation programming—bringing more opportunities for individuals to stay active, engaged, and connected.
Meeting Diverse Interests and Abilities
Hope, Inc. serves nearly 300 participants with a wide range of interests and abilities. Through thoughtful program design, the organization offers inclusive sports, recreation, arts, and social activities that are tailored to meet individual needs while encouraging participation and growth.
“We intentionally design our offerings to ensure there is something meaningful and engaging for everyone,” said Kelly Buhr, Office and Program Manager at Hope, Inc. “These programs encourage engagement, foster personal development and help build critical life skills.”
Supporting Access to Inclusive Recreation
Grant funding will support a variety of program needs, ensuring participants have access to high-quality, accessible experiences. This includes:
- Adaptive art supplies and fees for six adaptive art club sessions
- Program costs for an adaptive cheer session
- Gymnasium rentals for youth and adult wheelchair basketball programs
- Maintenance and repairs for all-court sport wheelchairs, including tires and foot pedals
These investments help ensure that individuals of all abilities can fully participate in activities that promote physical health, creativity, and social connection.
Building Confidence Through Inclusion
By expanding access to adaptive sports and recreation, Hope, Inc. is helping individuals build confidence, develop new skills, and experience the joy of participation in a supportive, inclusive environment.
“Access to recreation and adaptive sports is essential to building confidence, promoting independence, and creating a sense of belonging,” said DeAnn Burckhard, NDAD Marketing Director. “When we invest in inclusive programming like this, we’re helping individuals of all abilities discover their strengths, stay active, and connect with their community in meaningful ways.”
Continuing a Legacy of Impact
NDAD’s Gibbens Memorial Grant supports projects that enhance health, well-being, and quality of life for individuals in at-risk populations. Established in 2015 in honor of NDAD founders Faye and Ron Gibbens, the grant carries forward their legacy of creating meaningful opportunities and improving lives across North Dakota.
