NDAD is proud to support the Elk Ridge Elementary PTO in Bismarck with a $5,000 Gibbens Memorial Grant to help make school performances, assemblies, and special events more accessible for students with mobility challenges.

Creating Equal Access to Important School Experiences

Grant funding will help purchase an ADA-accessible ramp for the school's stage, allowing students who use wheelchairs or have other mobility limitations to safely and independently participate in programs, performances, presentations, graduations, and recognition events alongside their classmates.

The stage is a central gathering place at Elk Ridge Elementary School, but students with mobility challenges have faced barriers accessing it. The new ramp will provide a long-term solution that benefits current and future students while reinforcing the school's commitment to inclusion and belonging.

“Every student deserves the opportunity to participate fully in the moments that make school special,” said Sarah Dahl of Elk Ridge Elementary. “This ramp will help ensure students can take the stage safely, independently, and alongside their peers.”

Supporting Inclusion and Independence

The new ramp will help create a more welcoming and accessible environment for all students while providing greater independence for those with mobility challenges. Because it will be used for years to come, the project represents a lasting investment in accessibility and opportunity.

“Accessibility helps ensure every child has the opportunity to participate, be recognized, and feel included,” said DeAnn Burckhard, NDAD Marketing Director. “We're proud to support this project and help create a school environment where all students can share in important milestones and experiences.”

Continuing a Legacy of Impact

NDAD's Gibbens Memorial Grant supports projects that enhance health, well-being, and quality of life for individuals in at-risk populations. Established in 2015 in honor of NDAD founders Faye and Ron Gibbens, the grant carries forward their legacy of creating meaningful opportunities and improving lives across North Dakota.
