Spread Your Sunshine Expands Access Through “Sunshine Gatherings”
NDAD is proud to support Spread Your Sunshine in Moorhead with a $5,000 Gibbens Memorial Grant to expand inclusive programming through its Sunshine Gatherings initiative.

Bringing Inclusive Experiences Into the Community
Sunshine Gatherings provide accessible, community-based activities delivered directly within housing sites, schools, and community spaces—meeting youth where they are and creating opportunities for connection, participation, and growth.

Grant funding helps remove barriers to participation by supporting adaptive and sensory accommodations such as fidget tools, noise-reducing headphones, visual schedules, and modified activity materials. Funds also provide hands-on programming supplies, including art materials, games, and structured group activities designed for a wide range of abilities.

“These gatherings are intentionally designed with accessibility in mind so all youth can fully engage,” said Addie Loerzel, Founder and Director of Spread Your Sunshine. “We anticipate serving over 400 youth while creating meaningful opportunities for leadership and active participation throughout the year.”

Fostering Confidence, Connection, and Belonging
By bringing inclusive programming into familiar community spaces, Sunshine Gatherings help youth build confidence, develop social skills, and experience a true sense of belonging.

“Programs like Sunshine Gatherings make a meaningful difference by creating spaces where every young person feels seen, supported, and included,” said DeAnn Burckhard, NDAD Marketing Director. “When we invest in accessibility and inclusive programming, we’re helping youth build confidence, form connections, and discover their strengths in a welcoming environment.”

Continuing a Legacy of Impact
NDAD’s Gibbens Memorial Grant supports projects that enhance health, well-being, and quality of life for individuals in at-risk populations. Established in 2015 in honor of NDAD founders Faye and Ron Gibbens, the grant carries forward their legacy of creating meaningful opportunities and improving lives across North Dakota.
