NDAD is proud to support CVIC with a $5,000 Gibbens Memorial Grant to help create a more welcoming, accessible, and trauma-informed environment for youth affected by interpersonal violence and abuse.

Reducing Barriers and Supporting Healing

CVIC provides advocacy, therapy, safety planning, and supportive services for individuals who have experienced domestic violence, sexual assault, human trafficking, stalking, family violence, and other traumatic events. Grant funding will be used to purchase sensory, creative, educational, and comfort-based resources that help young people feel safe, communicate their needs, regulate emotions, and engage in services.

The project will add items such as books, emotion-identification tools, arts and crafts supplies, fidget items, noise-reducing headphones, breathing cards, and other resources to better support youth during critical points of intervention. Funding will also help update the family advocacy office where youth and families receive services.

“Every young person deserves to feel safe, supported, and understood when seeking help,” said Coiya Tompkins Inman, President/CEO of CVIC. “This funding will help us create environments that better meet the emotional, sensory, and communication needs of the youth we serve, helping them feel more comfortable and engaged throughout the healing process.”

Creating Opportunities for Growth and Resilience

Many youth receiving services have experienced events that affect their ability to communicate, manage stress, or participate fully in traditional service settings. By providing tools that accommodate a variety of developmental, sensory, and emotional needs, CVIC is helping young people build coping skills, strengthen resilience, and access support in ways that work best for them.

“When youth feel comfortable and supported, they're better able to engage in the services that can help them heal and move forward,” said DeAnn Burckhard, NDAD Marketing Director. “We're proud to support CVIC's efforts to create spaces where young people can build confidence, develop healthy coping skills, and receive the support they need to thrive.”

Continuing a Legacy of Impact

NDAD's Gibbens Memorial Grant supports projects that enhance health, well-being, and quality of life for individuals in at-risk populations. Established in 2015 in honor of NDAD founders Faye Gibbens and Ron Gibbens, the grant carries forward their legacy of creating meaningful opportunities and improving lives across North Dakota.
