NDAD is proud to support CASO (Come AlongSide Others) in Minot with a $5,000 Gibbens Memorial Grant to help create a sensory room for children in foster care and children participating in family visitations.
Supporting Children Through Challenging Transitions
CASO serves foster children, foster families, case managers, and biological families by providing resources and support designed to reduce trauma and strengthen family connections. Grant funding will help purchase equipment for a new sensory room at the CASO House, creating a safe place where children can swing, climb, jump, relax, and engage in calming activities when they need help regulating their emotions.
Children entering foster care often arrive during some of the most difficult moments of their lives. The sensory room will provide a supportive environment where children can process emotions, reduce stress, and feel safe during transitions and family visits.
“We believe the sensory room will help reduce trauma and support healing for the children who come through our doors,” said Jolene Haffner, Executive Director of CASO. “Our hope is that it becomes a place where children can feel safe, calm, and supported during challenging situations.”
Helping Children Build Stability and Confidence
The sensory room will also serve as a learning tool for foster and biological parents, helping them better understand techniques and resources that support children with emotional, behavioral, sensory, and developmental needs.
“Children facing uncertainty deserve spaces that help them feel secure and supported,” said DeAnn Burckhard, NDAD Marketing Director. “We're proud to support CASO's efforts to create an environment where children can regulate emotions, reduce stress, and focus on healing.”
Continuing a Legacy of Impact
NDAD's Gibbens Memorial Grant supports projects that enhance health, well-being, and quality of life for individuals in at-risk populations. Established in 2015 in honor of NDAD founders Faye Gibbens and Ron Gibbens, the grant carries forward their legacy of creating meaningful opportunities and improving lives across North Dakota.
