Together in Motion: Amputee Support Network has been awarded a $5,000 NDAD Gibbens Memorial Grant to advance its Peer Support & Mobility Access Initiative—an effort designed to strengthen connection, independence, and access for individuals impacted by limb loss across North Dakota.

This initiative serves a broad and inclusive community, including individuals who are newly amputated, long-term amputees seeking connection, people with limb differences, as well as caregivers, spouses, children, and families. Services are available statewide, with a focused commitment to reaching rural and underserved communities where support options can be limited or nonexistent.

“At NDAD, we believe sustainable support networks are essential for individuals navigating health challenges,” said DeAnn Burckhard, Marketing Director at NDAD. “By investing in peer connections and accessible resources, we’re helping build communities of support that empower individuals long after the initial point of care.”

At the heart of this project is a commitment to meeting people where they are—emotionally, physically, and geographically. Through peer mentorship, education, and access assistance, Together in Motion is creating meaningful opportunities for individuals to connect, share experiences, and build confidence.

“The purpose of this project is to provide connection, practical support, and hope through peer mentorship, education, and access assistance,” said Shelby Denault of Together in Motion. “NDAD’s grant allows us to build a sustainable support network that truly meets people where they are.”

Grant funding will directly support:
  • Development of peer support programming
  • Transportation and mobility access assistance
  • Education and care resource kits
  • Support group programming
  • Community outreach and awareness efforts
Continuing a Legacy of Impact
NDAD’s Gibbens Memorial Grant supports projects that enhance health, well-being, and quality of life for individuals in at-risk populations. Established in 2015 in honor of NDAD founders Faye and Ron Gibbens, the grant carries forward their legacy of creating meaningful opportunities and improving lives across North Dakota.
