Live Well Grand Cities Expands Access with Adaptive Cooking Education and Visual Recipes
NDAD is proud to support Live Well Grand Cities with a $4,750 Gibbens Memorial Grant to expand inclusive cooking education through adaptive tools and visual learning resources. The program will provide hands-on cooking sessions and develop accessible recipes to help individuals of all abilities build confidence in the kitchen.

Expanding Opportunities Through Inclusive Education
Through this initiative, Live Well Grand Cities will host 10 adaptive cooking sessions, serving at least 40 individuals who can benefit from accessible, skills-based instruction. These sessions are designed to create a supportive environment where participants can actively engage, learn, and develop practical life skills.

“Since our mission is focused on improving individual and community well-being, NDAD’s grant helps ensure our efforts to expand food skill opportunities in the Grand Cities are as inclusive as possible,” said Shilo Previti of Live Well Grand Cities.

Making Cooking Accessible for All
Grant funds will support the purchase of adaptive cooking equipment, allowing individuals with a wide range of abilities to fully participate in each session. In addition, the program will cover food supplies, so every participant has the opportunity for hands-on learning.

A key component of this project is the development of 10 visual recipes, which will be shared online for broader community use. These easy-to-follow resources will benefit participants and partner organizations serving diverse groups across the region.

Empowering Independence Through Access
By reducing barriers and creating accessible learning tools, this program helps individuals gain greater independence while fostering confidence and connection.

“Access to everyday skills like cooking plays a critical role in independence and quality of life,” said DeAnn Burckhard, NDAD Marketing Director. “By investing in adaptive equipment and visual learning tools, we’re helping ensure more individuals can participate, build confidence, and experience the pride that comes with creating something for themselves.”

Continuing a Legacy of Impact
NDAD’s Gibbens Memorial Grant supports projects that enhance health, well-being, and quality of life for individuals in at-risk populations. Established in 2015 in honor of NDAD founders Faye and Ron Gibbens, the grant carries forward their legacy of creating meaningful opportunities and improving lives across North Dakota.
