NDAD and the Grand Forks Park District are proud to announce the development of a new fully inclusive playground at NDAD Park, located near Discovery Elementary. This thoughtfully designed space will provide a welcoming environment where people of all abilities, ages and backgrounds can play, connect and belong.

The project, which started construction in early May, was made possible through a generous gift from NDAD to the Park District and reflects a continued commitment to accessibility, independence, and community inclusion in Grand Forks.

“This inclusive park is an investment in the heart of our community and the hometown where NDAD was founded in 1975,” said NDAD CEO Don Santer. “When accessibility is designed in from the start, it changes how families experience a space. It brings people together, creates shared moments, and strengthens community connections. That kind of impact is exactly why we’re proud to support this project.”

Developed collaboratively by NDAD and the Grand Forks Park District, the playground design incorporated input from educators at Discovery Elementary to ensure features support children of all ages and abilities. The park will include elements that encourage physical activity, sensory engagement, and social interaction, creating opportunities for meaningful play experiences.

“The inclusive playground at NDAD Park is an exciting project that will remove barriers and expand access to play” says Park District Executive Director George Hellyer.  “We are so thankful to NDAD for their generosity and share in their commitment to bringing inclusive recreational spaces to our community.”

NDAD Park will serve as a central gathering place where families can connect, differences are embraced, and inclusion becomes a daily experience. The project represents a long-term investment by the Park District and NDAD to create a community where public spaces reflect and support everyone.
 
Construction Timeline (timeline is subject to change)
