In early 2025, Gary Myers noticed something was off. After months of unexplained and confusing symptoms, the Myers family received unthinkable news: Gary had been diagnosed with ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease.

Since then, Gary and his wife, Abbi, have continued working, raising their two children, and leaning into life as fully as possible. One of the family’s most pressing needs is a handicap-accessible van—a crucial tool to help them stay mobile, connected, and able to meet Gary’s ongoing and future medical needs.

Gary and Abbi are proud parents to two amazing kids, Joe and Julia. Joe, 12, is clever and curious, with a love for math, YouTube, farm equipment, and steam power. Julia, 10, is an avid musician, bright student, and devoted animal lover.

Their family story began in 2011 when Gary & Abbi married in Gwinner. Abbi, who grew up there, is the daughter of Kent and Julie Johnson. She spent many summers as a counselor and leader at Red Willow Bible Camp, has taught music to hundreds of children, and graduated from VCSU in 2024. She now teaches music at Litchville-Marion.

Gary grew up on a ranch in Montana and has dedicated his life to helping others—whether volunteering for faith-based activities or lending a hand at local events like Sodbuster Days. After moving to Fort Ransom, he worked as a Diesel Tech, contractor, and cabinet builder before becoming a Civil Engineering Technician with the North Dakota Department of Transportation.
